Growing up in a Chinese-Laos household, learning how to use chopsticks was an expectation rather than a suggestion. It’s a skill most of us naturally tend to pick up, wanting to mimic how the adults around us consumed their meals.
From sharing dishes around a lazy susan, to picking at side dishes, to picking at random objects in general; using chopsticks is an inherent skill that occupies both our ordinary and dining spaces.
My piece ponders the multifaceted use of chopsticks. At the centre of the scene lies a trinket girl, wrapped up in a whimsy world of noodles and threads. Look at all the things you can do with a pair of chopsticks!
